July 2024 Devotional: The Waiting Room

Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Psalm 27:14 NKJV

Can you believe that we are already halfway into the year? Like so many of you, I am believing God for a breakthrough in many areas of my life in 2024, and I had high expectations that some things would have occurred by now. When I started The Leaven Company, I thought I would have my first corporate partner in weeks. Lofty goal, I know, but I was confident I could pull it off. Starting my own business has humbled me, as it has taken much longer than I thought to hit milestones. Psalm 27 has ministered to me while I wait to see the promises of God, and it has encouraged me to hold fast to the profession of my faith, even when the situation looks utterly impossible. So what happens when you’ve made it to June and the promise you received from the Lord hasn’t come to pass yet? What about when you thought something should’ve happened by now and here you are, seemingly in the same place you were in January? According to the Word of God, you keep on waiting on the Lord in faith because He is working while you are waiting.

The waiting room is a testing ground for your faith, a preparation space so that you not only receive the blessing but keep the blessing, and an opportunity for God to develop and mature your character. Let me be honest by saying that the waiting room is not the easiest place to be in. I have doubted God’s promises while in the waiting room, but through prayer and Bible reading, I have experienced God’s necessary refinement. In Revelation 3:18 (NKJV), Jesus says:

“I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”

Fire is a gold purifier. It first exposes, and then removes the impurities of the gold, resulting in a valuable and noble metal. I believe that God wants to shift our collective perspective of the waiting room from being seen as an inconvenience to a place where He can make us pure and noble. The waiting room is a place of divine transformation. You can be converted from disqualified to redeemed. You can change from prideful to humble. Your imposter syndrome can be exposed and removed to reveal a new, confident you. All you have to do is surrender to the fact that you cannot do anything apart from God. Like a patient suffering from an illness they cannot diagnose, who waits patiently to see their doctor, and surrenders to their proposed solution, so you must do with your Heavenly Father. Surrender to His plan, His will, and His waiting process, and you are guaranteed to see the promise manifest.

Job 23:10 (NKJV) says, “But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.

If you’re being tested in the waiting room, thank God for the refinement because your blessing is imminent! When the time is right, just like the patient in the waiting room, your name will be called to receive what you have been waiting for.
